The Scarred Prince by Erika Everest Review

The first book I read in the Tales from the Kingdom of Fable was The Golden Ball. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to read the first book in the series The Scarred Prince. However, it turned out that The Orphan Queen the series prequel was still available to read so I put The Scarred Prince on hold and read it instead. After finishing and enjoying both books it was more than overdue to restart The Scarred Prince and finish it. And so, I did, and it was incredibly good. The book, like the others in the series, is a mix of two different fairy tales, this case being Beauty and the Beast and Little Red Riding Hood. However, I must say compared to the rest of the books in the series I felt like this one resembled its origins the least. The story also incorporated other fairy tales such as the Twelve Dancing Princesses and Sleeping Beauty with the latter tale having its own retelling in the series. I personally enjoy reading series that are set in the same world with each kingdom having i...

The Orphan Queen by Erika Everest Review

Happy New Year's Eve everyone. I hope this year has been a good one for you all despite the threat of Covid. Christmas was a lot of fun this year and I got lots of good books. One of the series I received this holiday season was the Tales from the Kingdom of Fable written by Erika Everest. I prefer to read physical books in general, so it did not matter to me that I was already on the last book (that has been released) and I finished it in a few days. The Tales from the Kingdom of Fable series consists of four books so far. There are the three main books The Scarred Prince, The Golden Ball, and The Princess Vow and then the prequel to the series the novella The Orphan Queen. Unlike the other three books, The Orphan Queen can only be obtained by subscribing to Erika Everest's Newsletter. It is completely free, and the point of the Newsletter is for authors to give updates on upcoming books of theirs as well as general news on their lives and if a sale is coming. I have recently...

The Cursed Prince by Aya Ling Review

After reading the first two books in the Reversed Retellings series I was very eager to see how the final book The Cursed Prince would turn out. I have been extremely interested in Sleeping Beauty retellings recently and this book did not disappoint me. In fact, it turned out to be my favorite in the trilogy. And just like its precursors it was the first gender swapped Sleeping Beauty retelling I had ever read despite knowing of others like it like Daggers Sleep by Tricia Mingerink. I look forward to reading more Sleeping Beauty retellings in the future and am currently reading another one which will be reviewed sooner than later once I finish it. Also, before continuing this review please know there are some minor spoilers of the two previous books mentioned in this review. If you don't care about spoilers than carry on reading. If you don't want to be spoiled than come back after reading at least the first two books in the trilogy. The book introduces Gabi a mage whose parent...

The Beast and the Beauty by Aya Ling Review

After reading and enjoying Till Midnight, I knew the next logical step was to read its sequel The Beast and the Beauty. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale, but I had never read a reverse gender retelling of this beloved tale. I do not know why I have not gotten around to it sooner since I want to read Ogre Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, and Beasts of Beauty by Celeste Baxendell for quite a while. However, it is better to start late than never. Anyway, the book was good, and I had a fun time reading it. But compared with the other two books in the trilogy I would have to say this was one was my least favorite. However, it was a good introduction to a gender swapped Beauty and the Beast tale and I think any fairy tale lover would enjoy this book. It should be noted that many spoilers from the first book are brought up,  so it is best to read the series in order. If you want to read the series without spoilers, then it is best read this review after finishing the bo...

Till Midnight by Aya Ling Review

For a while now I have wanted to read one of Aya Ling books. I was originally going to read her Unfinished Fairy Tales series but after receiving all three books of her Reversed Fairy Tale trilogy changed my mind. I read the three books during Thanksgiving break and really enjoyed them. I also plan to read more of her books during Christmas break so please expect reviews of The Ugly Stepsister, Princess of Athelia, Twice Upon a Time, and Ever After and Queen of Athelia to come sooner than later during the holiday season. Anyway, Till Midnight is a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses only instead of princesses there are twelve princes. And the brave soldier (or gardener depending on what version of the story you are  reading) is a shoe cobbler working at the palace who must mend the princes' shoes.       The book begins with Alix and her friend Fabio being sent to work at the royal palace...
